LEV Testing and Cleaning
LEV maintenance - regulationsDoes your business or organisation have areas on its premises that use a Local Exhaust Ventilation ( LEV) to protect the health of individuals working with hazardous materials? If yes, then you will know that LEV systems must be maintained in good working condition to effectively remove pollutants from the workplace and dispose of them safely. The HSE's Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002 requires that, where certain chemicals and other substances are used in industrial and commercial processes, they should either be contained or safely dispersed through a Local Exhaust Ventilation system. The COSHH regulations also stipulate that that LEV systems should be regularly tested to ensure that they are operating efficiently. Thorough testing and examination of LEV plants must be carried out at least every 14 months (in practice annually) or more frequently for certain processes. (COSHH Regulation 9, 'Maintenance, examination and testing of control measures') and should be given a visual check at least once a week. Records of LEV systems must also kept available for at least 5 years and should show the outcome of weekly visual checks, the results of the thorough annual inspection and tests, and any repairs or remedial work carried out as a result of this regular monitoring.
